Billie Marten made an indelible impression with the single ‘Bird’. Her mature songwriting skills and unique vocal delivery at the age of 16 quickly caught the attention of music blogs and radio stations. A Bit of Pop Music included her in the list of most promising artists of 2016, and finally, the time has come to listen to new material. Her latest single ‘Milk & Honey’ premiered on BBC Radio 1 and is now officially available. Undoubtedly, it’s another gem.
According to Billie herself, ‘Milk & Honey’ “deals with people’s greed and the thoughts that trap us in this consumeristic mindset.” In the chorus, she magnificently expresses concepts like: “live for excess, but you’re still ungrateful. All you want is honey, well, darling, I’ve tried, you just want more, and now it’s all over.” Combine these insightful lyrics with a captivating melody and delicate orchestration that perfectly underscores her fragile yet angelic vocal style, resulting in another impressive single that will undoubtedly make her star shine even brighter in the coming months!
The video is inspired by a Japanese fable about a samurai master and a tea master. Director Rob Brandon explained, “I love this song; the lyrics remind me of one of my favorite fables, and I think the theme of the lyrics uniquely matches the fairy tale characters.”
