Born on March 7, 1977, in Guyana, Flamez developed a strong passion for music from a young age, influenced by the sounds of reggae and American music broadcasted on the radio. Despite growing up in a challenging socioeconomic environment, music always provided him with comfort and inspiration. Live performances were a rarity, but this did not prevent Flamez from cultivating a deep connection with music. At the age of 14, Crucial Flamez moved to Jamaica, the home of reggae, where he had the chance to directly engage with the genre that had influenced him so deeply. This move was pivotal in his artistic path, further solidifying his passion for music. In the 1990s, while studying at the University of Technology (UTECH) in Kingston, Flamez immersed himself in Jamaica’s vibrant dancehall scene, staying updated on the latest musical trends by regularly purchasing mixtapes.
Despite his strong interest in music, Flamez initially pursued a career in information technology. He worked as a systems administrator in Jamaica, and in 2001 he moved to the United States to continue his studies at the New England Institute of Technology (NEIT). Though his professional career focused on IT, his passion for music remained alive, and he occasionally dedicated time to freestyle sessions and recording experiments. After more than two decades in the IT field, Flamez decided to return to his first love: music. At the age of 47, he officially launched his music career with the debut single “Happy Weh Wi Deh.” The inspiration for his return to the scene came from an instrumental riddim, the “One Tribe Riddim” by SoulFyah Productions, which reignited Flamez’s desire to create music.
Flamez collaborated with producer Alex English to bring his artistic vision to life. The result is “Happy Weh Wi Deh”, a song that conveys a strong sense of gratitude for the present moment, an anthem of resilience and celebration of life.
